This suggestion is really a suggestion to myself, but I figured I'd get some opinions on it first.
Essentially, I could make all of the forums private so someone who signs up cannot immediately post. This would mean that all new users would have to be manually put into groups with appropriate permissions by myself or another admin, but there'd be no more spam.
What does everyone think? Given that I occasionally disappear for ages it might require the recruitment of an additional moderator, but I don't really see it as an issue; if Rbos is concerned about giving too many people moderator powers then we can just give them specific powers to perform this task and no more.
